About Us

        1990

Since opening our commercial kitchen in April 2006, our days are filled with buying ingredients, making the salsa, labeling, packing, and shipping the salsa.  What ever time we have left is spent delivering to our local accounts or marketing to new possible locations.   We are committed to the quality and safety of each jar we produce.  We love meeting the people that buy our jars.... drop us a line, and let us know what you think of it.

Our "before retirement" positions with the government included Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Contracting , and Culinary Production .  It wasn't too much of a stretch to combine these with our love of Mexican food.

The MAMA in the name of MAMA'S SALSA, LLC, is our testimony to Mrs. Ortega, the lovely mother of my husband.    Of course, we couldn't use Mama ORTEGA'S Salsa, ... someone else has gotten to it first !

We Make ... "ONE JAR AT A TIME"....

In 1989 we were falling in love ; as you can see from our photo.... and in 1991 we moved our family from the beautiful central California coast to the equally lovely  east central Minnesota region.  Good memories of friends and family follow us.  Our son was 18 months old when we arrived in Minnesota, and he's just turned 18 this past November.  Time flies when you are blessed with love and laughter .....

Our love of California is very much reflected in our style and flavor of food served at our table. Our friends and family were served our salsa at many meals. They started asking for a container of it to take home. Tupperware gave way to gladware, and then to mason jars.

We decided to start canning the salsa to sell as gifts, and to take to local Farmer's Markets. Our customers were our doctors, our children's teachers, our friends and family...and then...a whole bunch of new friends.

We knew we needed to start looking for a place to manufacture our salsa for retail sales and were fortunate that the community had recently built a new K-12 school building, leaving the old one empty, including the commercial kitchen, which we now lease.

Obtaining the commercial kitchen, we began to market our salsa under the MAMA'S label. The kitchen is monitored and controlled by the Minnesota State Department of Agriculture. It represents our committment to good wholesome food, which we enjoy providing to friends, family, and new customers.
